Bed Bug Settlement of $250,000
Whitney, LLP recently recovered a $250,000 settlement in a hotel bed bug case in Maryland. The case arose out of the recurring scenario of a hotel that was indifferent to guest encounters with bed bugs.
Prior to our client being ravaged by bed bugs feeding upon her while she slept, the hotel had been informed by prior guests who had been badly bitten by bed bugs in the same room. Despite the prior complaints, the room remained in service and was neither inspected or treated by a licensed pest control company.
When a hotel knows or should know of the presence of bed bugs in a guest room, the standard of care requires that the room be placed out of order, and a licensed pest control company should be immediately called to inspect and treat. Ignoring or delaying professional treatment only causes the infestation to become more severe and endangers guests.

We previously recovered a $100,000 jury verdict for a woman who was badly bitten after staying at a Red Roof Inn in Maryland.
Guest Complaints Ignored for Years
After the lawsuit was filed, we fought to get years of guest complaints. It turns out that guest complaints were being ignored routinely.
Further, either little or no treatment was being performed in response to guest complaints of bed bugs.
Instead, infested rooms were allowed to stay infested.
